The path from the Bad Step to Camasunary is small, but distinct on the ground. I’m sure I’m not alone in considering this walk from Elgol to Loch Coruisk as the most scenically spectacular coastal walking … From here, easy angled slopes lead up to the true summit ridge, a short but knife edged ridge akin to walking along the ridge of a house, with the valley floor 2000ft. There’s a well trodden coastal walking route from Elgol to Loch Coruisk along the cliff top taking in Glen Scaladal, the beautiful bay at Camasunary, round the slopes of Sgurr na Stri and taking in the notorious Bad Step before reaching the head of the sea loch at Scavaig. There is an easier alternative at a higher level which is reached by a well marked scramble. Path Type: Rural Path
Once across this stream, continue along the path below the steep southern perimeter of Sgurr na Stri and round the Rubha Ban to Loch nan Leachd, an inner pool of Loch Scavaig. It is signposted as a route to Camasunary, Coruisk and Sligachan. It seems off the beaten track so was very quiet. Pass Loch an Athain on the right and then the much large Loch na Creitheach, keeping to the lower path near the loch. The following notes received from I H Cairns may help put the overall difficulties into perspective on the two options outlined above - "You should not underestimate walking to Coruisk via the Bad Step or from Coruisk to Sligachan. This beautifully situated spot on the machair above Camus Fhionnairigh can also be reached from Kilmarie on the B8083 (NG545173) by a track across the Strathaird peninsula.
