Unique Technical Achievement Sets Stage for Mass-Market Simultaneous Multimodality
CANNES, FRANCE; (INTERNET WIRE); 02/18/2003; 3GSM World Congress: Kirusa, the global leader in wireless multimodal platforms and solutions, today announced a breakthrough in mobile multimodal technology that will be demonstrated on the Orange SPV™ device at the 3GSM World Congress.
Featuring simultaneous multimodality, Kirusa’s demonstration marks the first time subscribers can use voice and visual input and output at the same time in a wireless application on a mass-market mobile phone device. For example, when searching for a movie of interest playing in a nearby theater, a subscriber can speak the name of the city and the genre, rather than trying to type these on the 12-key telephone keypad on the SPV™ device. With simultaneous multimodality, the wireless application experience on the SPV™ handset is dramatically richer and easier, stimulating adoption and retention by subscribers. The SPV™ device, based on Microsoft’s SmartPhone™ platform, has generated intense interest from mobile operators worldwide, and Kirusa’s simultaneous multimodal platform provides significant new revenue opportunities to operators introducing SmartPhone™ devices.
“Kirusa’s unique technical achievement in creating the world’s first simultaneous multimodal capability on a SmartPhone-based device is testament to the extraordinary strength of the Kirusa development team,” said Ewald Anderl, Vice President of Engineering at Kirusa. “The breakthrough to be demonstrated at Cannes represents just one of a number of technical advances in multimodality that we will be bringing to the marketplace in the near future.”
The demonstrations of simultaneous multimodality on the Orange SPV™ device will be held on Wednesday, 19th February, and Thursday, 20th February, at 3:00 p.m. in the Kirusa booth at the 3GSM World Congress (Hall #2, Booth D4.)
