Adding a convenient touch to communication for fixed line subscribers
Tuesday, June 19, 2007: Communicasia, Singapore: Kirusa, a leading mobile value added services provider based in New Jersey, today announced its “Convergent Voice SMS” product for convergent carriers providing fixed and mobile telephony services. The Convergent Voice SMS product is based upon the patented and patent pending “Voice SMS” technology from Kirusa, the first supplier to provide and commercially deploy a Convergent Voice SMS messaging solution at MTNL, India’s second largest Convergent operator.
A truly convergent service, the Voice SMS application allows a fixed line or mobile subscriber to send a short voice message to another fixed line or mobile user. To send a Voice SMS message, a user simply dials a short code “*” followed by the recipient’s phone number, and speaks a short message, in the language of his choice. If the recipient is a mobile user, the recipient gets an SMS message, and can dial a short code *0* to retrieve new Voice SMS messages, and *1* to retrieve old Voice SMS messages. If the recipient is a fixed line user, he receives a call, and the message is spoken to him. The fixed line user can also retrieve Voice SMS messages at any time by dialing *0* to retrieve new Voice SMS messages, or dialing *1* to retrieve old Voice SMS messages from his fixed line phone. Both the fixed line and the mobile recipients can also reply, forward, save, or delete a Voice SMS message.
Voice SMS opens up a huge market segment for the convergent and fixed line carriers. The benefits of Voice SMS services such as voice reminders, jokes, ads, international voice SMS, etc. which were earlier targeted only at mobile subscribers, are now also available for fixed line subscribers as well.
Mr. Raja Moorthy, VP Engineering, Kirusa said, “This is a great day for convergent operators. Subscribers need communications services that are better, simpler and faster to help them succeed wherever they are working. Kirusa brings together in one service, high speed non-intrusive access to all your messages stored in one place and a great cost effective anytime anywhere service. We are confident that this service would be of immense value to the subscribers and would see very rapid adoption. It is especially likely to benefit the fixed line users who till now had very limited or zero access to value added services on their fixed line phone. "
Recently India's second largest convergent carrier, MTNL, has deployed Kirusa's Convergent Voice SMS and has received a heartening response from its customers.
Mr. A. K. Arora, Executive Director of MTNL, said, “The Kirusa Voice SMS is a unique convergent service that works seamlessly for fixed and mobile customers of MTNL. The Voice SMS service fits nicely into our goal of increasing the value of fixed line telephony by bringing value added services to our fixed line subscribers, we believe Kirusa’s Voice SMS will fill the vital gap in communication needs of the fixed line subscribers and will provide value to our entire subscriber base.”
